What a great day! Love when I can go the MMRWA meetings. It's so energizing to be around other writers, at all stages of their careers. Today we did MMRWA IDOL. We were allowed to send in our first 250 words and a panel of five of our pubbed authors read them and gave a quick crit. I entered An Accidental Family. Hearing your own work read outloud is a little unsettling. Hearing all the entries read, and all the crits, was eye-opening. I always learn so much from things like this and today was no exception. Plus, it drove home what a talented group of writers we are! It was just the icing on the cake to win it today. The prize was a writing book, REVISING FICTION by Kirt Hickman. I'm looking forward to digging into it!
Right now, though I'm off for a hot bath and a good book. I've started Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. Perfect for a Saturday night. :)

Because I LIKE to make things difficult
I'm in! I entered the 2010 Golden Heart. Yay, me! The ms is only 48 pages long so far. Boo! However, the partial will sparkle and all the rest of it has to be is done. I'll have through the spring to polish the full.
I'm excited.
This is a great story. I think I've got some things in hand that I didn't before (like conflict, LOL) and I'm a good writer. I think this ms has an excellent chance of finalling. As long as I avoid the East German Judge, of course. The last time I entered I got 4 top scores--and a 3. Yup, thanks EGJ!
Must go write 10 pages! Then I've got a couple of contest entries to judge. But that's a whole 'nother post.

Better Late Than Never
I really do mean to keep up but time just slips through my fingers like you would not believe. So here I am, again. This time I am sitting on a major recent contest win--Georgia Romance Writers' Unpublished Maggie--and a request for the full ms of An Accidental Family!
Which would be great if I had more than 4 chapters written.
A bit of backstory. In August, when the Maggie calls went out and I didn't get one, I figured after 3 contests and no finals my ms just wasn't working--I was struggling with it anyway and it seemed a sign to let it go.
So I did.
Then, five weeks after the Maggie finalists were announced I get an email asking for my pic for the Maggie ceremony. Assuming it's a typo--it's been FIVE WEEKS--I send back a jokey kind of reply. Except it *wasn't* a mistake. I really *was* a Maggie finalist--for the second time--which is huge! Since Susan Litman had had the full for a month at that point or so I realized it was time to get that puppy back out and MAKE IT WORK.
The call from Georgia on the 3rd of October, with the news of my win and the request, was both validation that I am on the right track and severely panic inducing. Must. Get. It. Done! So I'm writing, and am about to go write more today, see where it goes, where I end up.
I'm also waiting for another contest at the end of the month that I entered when I thought I hadn't finaled in the Maggie. So we'll see. In the meantime, all the finals and wins in the world don't mean much if I don't get the book done and pubbed.
